You got to strip dowwwwn to do the Lambada!

From my Youtube channel:

Here's a fun (and ridiculous) clip from Y&R in 1990. Drucilla has been introduced as the soap version of "ghetto," and then she proceeds to insult my Brad's perfect body. This did not put her high on my like list back in 1990! But we get to see Don Diamont in his requisite Speedo, so who cares! (Classic line: "You got to strip dowwwwn to do the Lambada!") Plus, what she's teaching him is hardly the Lambada!

JPL dishes Rex and sex

Check out my buddy Michael Fairman's interview with OLTL hunk (and Adonis 2009 finalist) John-Paul Lavoisier.

In it, you can find out what JPL's opinion of Rex wearing a speedo is. And you'll be happy to know that, among other things, JPL appears to think his current storyline is about as ignorant as we viewers do!

Check it out!

Trivial pursuits

Hey all...I added a new little feature to the front page of soaphunks.net this weekend that you may enjoy.

Right under the featured picture, you'll find a new section labeled "Soap Hunk Trivia." This section will randomly generate a fact about one of the many hunks this site contains, with a link to that actor's page when you click for the answer.

There are currently just over 50 questions that are in the rotation, with more on the way. Check it out now at soaphunks.net, and enjoy!

Diamont's B&B debut: A hairy situation

Now that Don Diamont's B&B debut as Bill Spencer Jr. is upon us (hallelujah!), it's nice that the soap media is squarely focused on this square-jawed dreamboat again. Ladies & gents, here's your All Things Diamont Update:

First up, the great Michael Fairman just did an insightful interview with B&B's newest resident at his Web site. Check out that interview (including audio!) here.

Next, several soap blogs are abuzz over the surprising facial hair that Diamont's sporting with his new character. As his cheeks remained smooth for 23 years on Y&R as Brad Carlton, this new look is quite stunning for many Diamont watchers. One of those, in fact, is so anti-beard that they've started up a renegade site at BillJrMustShave.com, which chronicles in pictures and videos Don's good ol' days of being stubble-free. It's a fun site to reminisce on even if you don't agree with its premise...

...which I don't! Any longtime visitor of soaphunks.net knows that Diamont is my favorite soap hunk of all time, so I definitely have an opinion on this pressing issue. First of all, I can't blame Diamont for wanting to bring a new look to his new role, after being so closely associated with Brad Carlton for so long (on B&B's sister soap, no less). So there's that...but in my opinion, the beard looks GREAT on him! I'm generally not even a fan of facial hair on my soap hunks, but on Diamont, it just works. Sexy sexy sexy. So there! :)

May I suggest that if we really want to start a Web campaign to convince B&B to remove something from Diamont's body, that it be not his facial hair but instead his shirt? Y&R kept him clothed way too often towards the end, and make no mistake, Diamont still has an Adonis-level body. I just checked and BillJrMustStrip.com is available. Any takers?

GL's Driscoll Genoa City-bound

From Soap Opera Source:

Daytime Confidential is reporting that former GL star John Driscoll will join Y&R as Phillip Chancellor IV. Driscoll spent 5 years playing Coop Bradshaw on GL before he was written out in early 2009.

Phillip is the son of Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) and the late Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz). Phillip is also the grandson of Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton). The character's name has been dropped a couple of times over the past few months. During Katherine's "funeral," Nina revealed Phillip was fighting in the Iraq war.

According to DC's source, Driscoll will heavily interact with Adrienne Frantz (Amber), Christel Khalil (Lily) and Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe). Also interesting will bethe dynamic between Phillip and Cane (Daniel Goddard), seeing as how Cane turned out to be the "real" Phillip. During Katherine's "funeral," Nina looked at Cane and said "He's no Phillip." Was Y&R foreshadowing a story for the fans? It seems the writers have forgotten the DNA test between Jill and Cane did not match, yet she accepted Cane as her son anyway. It seems the writers have also forgotten the mysterious phone calls Cane made shortly after Jill accepted him as her son. Hmmmmmm….

The last time Phillip graced Genoa City with his presence was in 2001, when he was played by current Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley. Current Sarah Connor Chronicles star Thomas Dekker played the role back in 1993.

No first airdate has been given.

Hallelujah! Don Diamont back, joining B&B

This just in from the Dreams Do Come True department: legendary soap hunk and your Webmaster's Numero Uno, Don Diamont, has just announced plans to join B&B in April as Bill Spencer, Jr. This comes less than a month after the 22-year vet's character of Brad Carlton was killed off of Y&R.

I think now everyone can agree that all is right once again in the world.

(Special note to B&B head writer Bradley Bell: The shirt off. And often!)

Daytime Emmy Pre-Nominations Announced

There may or may not be an actual televised ceremony, but nonetheless we do have our annual whittling down of possible nominees for daytime's highest "honor," released this morning by the Academy.

If you're not familiar with how the Daytime Emmys work these days, the ultimate nominees will be taken from this "pre-nomination" list. Hidden, undiscussed rule: if you see a "Y&R" next to a candidate's name, they are practically a lock for a nomination, regardless of level of merit.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
AMC - Debbi Morgan, Bobbie Eakes - ABC
ATWT - Maura West, Elizabeth Hubbard - CBS
B&B - Susan Flannery, Katherine Kelly Lang - CBS
DAYS - Renee Jones, Lauren Koslow - NBC
GH - Laura Wright, Sarah Brown - ABC
GL - Kim Zimmer, Gina Tognoni - CBS
OLTL - Kassie DePaiva, Susan Haskell - ABC
Y&R - Jeanne Cooper, Judith Chapman - CBS

Sorry, La Lucci.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
AMC - Darnell Williams, Thorsten Kaye - ABC
ATWT - Michael Park, Grayson McCouch - CBS
B&B - John McCook, Ronn Moss - CBS
DAYS - Peter Reckell, Thaao Penghlis - NBC
GH - Maurice Benard, Anthony Geary - ABC
GL - Robert Newman, Daniel Cosgrove - CBS
OLTL - Michael Easton, Robert Woods - ABC
Y&R - Peter Bergman, Christian LeBlanc - CBS

How is Robert S. Woods a) a lead performer in 2008 and b) more deserving of lead actor consideration than Trevor St. John?

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
AMC - Melissa Claire Egan, Alicia Minshew - ABC
ATWT - Kelley Menighan Hensley, Julie Pinson - CBS
B&B - Alley Mills, Heather Tom - CBS
DAYS - Arianne Zucker, Tamara Braun - NBC
GH - Rebecca Herbst, Carolyn Hennesy - ABC
GL - Crystal Chappel, Marcy Rylan - CBS
OLTL - Bree Williamson, Kathy Brier - ABC
Y&R - Adrienne Frantz, Amelia Heinle - CBS

No bones for Genie Francis this go round, huh, GH? And once again, if AMC's Alicia Minshew isn't a lead actress, I don't know who is. Actually this entire ceremony is rendered invalid to me, given the exclusion of OLTL's Melissa Fumero, who gave the best performance by any actor in a any category in 2008.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
AMC - Vincent Irizarry, Jacob Young - ABC
ATWT - Van Hansis, Trent Dawson - CBS
B&B - Kyle Lowder, William DeVry - CBS
DAYS - Jay Johnson, Stephen Nichols - NBC
GH - Bruce Weitz, Bradford Anderson - ABC
GL - Lawrence Saint-Victor, Jeff Branson - CBS
OLTL - John-Paul Lavoisier, Tuc Watkins - ABC
Y&R - Michael Graziadei, Ted Shackelford - CBS

Tuc Watkins and JPL soooooo both deserve to win. Hence, neither will be nominated. No longer Younger Actor material, Hansis has to play with the big boys now.

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
AMC - Brianne Moncrief, Shannon Kane - ABC
ATWT - Marnie Schulenburg, Meredith Hagner - CBS
B&B - Jacqueline MacInnes Wood - CBS
DAYS - Molly Burnett, Rachel Melvin - NBC
GH - Kirsten Storms, Julie Berman - ABC
GL - Caitlin Van Zandt, Bonnie Dennison - CBS
OLTL - Kristen Alderson, Farah Fath - ABC
Y&R - Christel Khalil, Emily O'Brien - CBS

Storms and Alderson deserve to duke it out. I doubt either of those will score nominations either, if the past is any indication!

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
AMC - Daniel Kennedy, Cornelius Smith, Jr. - ABC
ATWT - Billy Magnussen, Mick Hazen - CBS
DAYS - Blake Berris, Darin Brooks - NBC
GL - EJ Bonilla - CBS
OLTL - Brandon Buddy, Edward Alderson - ABC
Y&R - Bryton McClure, Kevin Schmidt - CBS

B&B is MIA, which is LOL. If Brandon Buddy gets a nom while his more gifted OLTL co-stars get shafted, I shall not be pleased. Why isn't the kid who plays OLTL's Shane up here? He's better than both of them!

JPL's hair MIA

Wow! The 2008 Soaphunks.net Award winner for Best Hair now barely has any left! Check out what OLTL's John-Paul Lavoisier has done to his coiffure. I'll have to see it in motion before I know what I really think of it...
