the 100 most memorable moments in soap history
"Look what you've done to me! I'm not gonna die without holding you in my arms just one time."Daytime's most popular twosome wasn't always such a happy couple. GH's Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) was originally paired with Scotty Baldwin. In 1979, Laura was working at the Campus Disco and became friends with Luke (Anthony Geary), her boss. Little did Laura know, Luke had fallen in love with her. In over his head with Frank Smith's mob business, Luke thought he was going to die and wanted to be with Laura before he lost his life. Making an even bigger hit out of Herb Alpert's "Rise," the song that is playing in the background, as a drunken Luke rapes Laura. This moment was shocking at the time, but it raised even more eyebrows when history was later revised, and the rape was referred to as a "seduction" after the couple skyrocketed in popularity. Luke's rape of Laura was revisited and truly dealt with 19 years later by the GH scribes in a superb, Emmy-winning storyline, and the moment continues to drive story today.
