THE SECRET STORM aired on CBS from February 1, 1954 to February 8, 1974. Thirty-three years after its cancellation, more famous than any of its 20 years worth of storylines, the show is most remembered for the most shocking case of stunt casting in soap history. In October 1968, actress Christina Crawford suddenly fell ill with an ovarian cyst. Her adoptive mother, Joan Crawford, filled in for her as a ratings gimmick, even though the Oscar winner was 30 years too old for the part. She was a major embarrassment to Christina, as it was evident that she was drunk on the live episode transmission. Soon after her mother's appearance, Christina's character was written off the show. Now where did those wire hangers disappear to?
