the 100 most memorable moments in soap history
"I'm your husband! What is this 'Don't touch me' stuff?!"GL's Roger Thorpe (Michael Zaslow) comes home to find that his wife, Holly (Maureen Garrett) is packing her bags. Roger thought that Holly was still in love with Ed Bauer, and that apparently made him feel like less than a man. So, in perhaps the most disturbing scene of its kind in soap history, Roger, in a jealous rage, forces himself upon his wife. The scene is especially graphic for its 1979 airdate, and the GL writers once and for all established Roger Thorpe as one of daytime's most dastardly villains. The storyline that followed was also a daytime first: the first time a married woman accused her spouse of rape. A truly troubling storyline, and an unforgettable moment.
