the 100 most memorable moments in soap history
Uh, scratch that. In 2006, befuddled AMC viewers learned that Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) had not had an abortion after all. Defying the laws of biology, good storytelling and common sense, the doctor who performed Erica's abortion, Greg Madden (Ian Buchanan), was so obsessed with the then-model that, instead of discarding the aborted fetus, he implanted it into his barren wife. Fast-forward 33 years and an adult Josh Madden (Colin Egglesfield) became a producer on Erica's talk show, New Beginnings. After learning of his attempts to sabotage her, Erica fired Josh. Not too long afterward, she learned he was her not-so-aborted child. She kept the news from Josh for awhile, but she inadvertently let it slip soon after she was rescued from an explosion during the Mardi Gras ball (and after Josh saved her life...note the irony *eyeroll*). There are retcons, and there are retcons. Even diehard soap fans would be hard-pressed to find a story that insulted the audience's intelligence more than this one, and that dubious distinction makes this soap moment unfortunately memorable.
