They were arguably AMC's most popular supercouple: Jenny Gardner (Kim Delaney), the sweet girl with the tough childhood and Greg Nelson (Laurence Lau), the rich kid with a heart of gold. Their three-year romance featured some of the pitfalls that befell many popular couples of their time. During one of those rough times, Jenny became engaged to Tony Barclay (Brent Barrett). When the couple reconciled, Tony became enraged. Soon after Greg and Jenny finally got married, they went Jet Skiing at Willow Lake, but Tony rigged Greg's Jet Ski with explosives. At the last minute, Jenny switched Jet Skis with Greg and died in the subsequent explosion. That devastating end to Greg and Jenny, a move made necessary by Kim Delaney's decision to leave AMC, gave the couple a Romeo and Juliet-like quality that makes the couple one of soaps' most legendary twosomes. The two helped popularize the supercouple concept, the driving force behind daytime dramas' unprecedented success in the 1980s.
