the 100 most memorable moments in soap history

Before he became a comic hero, Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) was raised in a life of privilege to be the spitting image of his father Harper (Joseph Campanella). His spoiled upbringing helped him become the spiteful, entitled young man he was when he arrived in Salem in 1987. In one year, he raped good girl Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) and deceived and cheated on his fiancee Melissa Anderson (Lisa Trusel). After Kayla reunited with her true love Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols), Jack used a number of schemes to get revenge on the couple. One of his ideas was to find Billy Johnson, the son Steve's mother, Jo (Joy Garrett), put up for adoption as a young child and never found. Jack thought the young man would be bitter and cause trouble for the Johnsons if he were reunited with them. What Jack didn't know was that he was Billy Johnson. The moment he made that discovery, he began to question everything about himself. His entire identity had been a lie. This moment started Jack on a long road to redemption. Few soap characters have gone from being so hated to being beloved in a few short years. And few, if any, actors have been able to own a role he was the third of five actors to play.
