In 1990, ATWT's Dr. Casey Peretti (Bill Shanks) was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a disorder of the nervous system. Paralysis began to set in, Casey came down with the flu and then encephalitis. Casey became confined to a wheelchair, helpless and unable to feed or bathe himself. Eventually, his paralysis spread to his lungs. As doctors ordered a respirator, Casey begged his stepdaughter, Margo Hughes (Ellen Dolan), to let him die with dignity. With no one else around, Margo was totally on the spot, in a moment that most soaps wouldn't have the cajones to present. In a shocking move, Margo summoned up the courage to fulfill Casey's final plea, ripping the life-support plug from the wall. In this clip, Margo discovers that Casey's emotional family finds it hard to accept the decision she had made. A bold issue many people still struggle with today, and rather than shy away from it, ATWT chose to deal with euthanasia head on.
