adonis 2005

The eligibility rules were basically the same as last year. In order for a soap hunk to be fair game for the Adonis 2005 contest, he must have currently appeared on a U.S. soap during the contest period, with no announced plans (by May 20th, 2005) to vacate his role before the end of the contest. That lets out DAYS' Eric Winter, set to depart this summer, as well as PASSIONS' Galen Gering, who is set for a summertime hiatus. Hunks debuting the month the contest begins are eligible. This allows guys like DAYS' returning Austin Peck and new B&B cast member Antonio Sabato, Jr. to compete. Competitors can be either on contract or steadily recurring.

I whittled the list of contenders down to 32, using hunks from each soap and trying to spread the wealth around and be fair and honest. These 32 guys were separated into four groups of eight. My main rules for picking the semifinalists and their respective groups were: 1) all finalists from Adonis 2004 were automatically made semifinalists for Adonis 2005, except for the departing Eric Winter; 2) no more than three Adonis 2004 finalists could be in one single group of eight during the '05 semifinals; and 3) no more than two guys from the same show could compete against each other in the same semifinal group.

Just as in Adonis 2004, voters were allowed only three votes per IP address each week.

For the first five weeks of the contest, you voted for which hotties would be competing. In four semifinal rounds, the two most popular hunks from a field of eight advanced. In the fifth week's Wild Card round, eight also-rans got one more chance to be the final competitor voted in by the public. Three more wild cards were hand-selected by three esteemed judges: one by Dreamcaps head honcho DaveId, a true soap hunk expert, soaphunks.net contributor, and returning judge from last year; one by Paula Abdul-wannabe Soapgal, a galpal of mine who knows a lot about the hunks of daytime; and finally one more picked by yours truly. Then it was time for the real contest to begin!

Each week at soaphunks.net, I revealed the results of the previous week's voting and launched the next week's round, all up until we ended up with our winner.
